Winged Bradford Pear Vase

Winged Bradford Pear Vase

This is another Bradford pear vase. Notice the richness of the grain appearance. Each of the wings represents limbs and the bark between the limbs can still be seen. The wild grain pattern is an attempt of the tree to keep the limbs from splitting apart under load. This method of growth is not as successful in preventing splitting in this species as in other wood species.
