Walnut Natural Edge Bowl

Walnut Natural Edge Bowl

One of my Transcendental Meditation students, when she came for her introductory lecture, brought me the wood for this bowl. She knew of my interest in turning and had purchased some of my work previously.

She said that she was just driving down the road and saw this newly felled black walnut tree bucked into pieces in a man's yard. She stopped and asked him what he was going to do with the wood and he told her he would sell it. She asked him how much for the piece she brought me and he said that he would just give her that piece.

It was freshly cut and I was inspired to go to my shop that very evening and rough turn the bowl to its final thickness. After drying it for a few days I was able to finish it.

Now my student is the proud possessor of a bowl made of wood that she found. I was able to make three more bowls from the piece she brought and the story of how I came by the wood always makes the piece more meaningful to me and to those who purchase my work.
