turned cherry wood bowl

Cherry Rolling Pin, French Style

This is a better example of the French style rolling pin. It is long, slightly tapered at the ends and slightly thicker in the middle. This helps to spread out the dough evenly as you roll it.

There are no handles to interfere with rolling the dough up on the pin and then unrolling in on the pie pan.

This one is cherry. Cherry is such a fine wood. It is very close grained and quite hard. It will last hundreds of years with a little care. Cherry has the quality of getting deeper red as the wood is exposed to light. So the color becomes more enjoyable with age.

Wish the human physiology got better with age. Speaking of aging physiology, what I have learned in my years is that good quality organic food prepared at home by a cook who puts love into the food will go a long way to slowing the rate at which we age. The fast food craze is at the opposite pole as documentaries like SuperSize Me dramatically point out.
